Admitting procedures
In preparation
Prior to the day of your hospital procedure or admission, there are several processes that must be completed, including:
- Registration
- Financial Consultation
- Pre-Admission Testing
- Anesthesia Evaluation/Questionnaire
Please be aware that this entire process may take up to two hours.
Registration
Your physician's office will work directly with the hospital to schedule the date and time of your procedure or hospital admission. A pre-registration representative will contact you to pre-register for your procedure, or you may call 264-1952 or (800) 264-1952, Mon - Fri: 8:30am - 4:00pm.
Pre-admission testing
Two to seven days prior to your scheduled procedure date, you'll need to meet with one of our pre-admission testing (PAT) nurses. The purpose of the meeting is to gather nursing assessment information, identify health conditions, complete pre-operative diagnostic testing like x-rays or blood tests and to review any special instructions you should follow before coming in for your procedure. If your physician has given you any orders or instructions, please bring them to this meeting.
If you are unable to complete this process or if there are changes in your health condition, please contact one of our pre-admission nurses by calling 264-2055.
If you have had lab work or testing already performed at another facility, please let the pre-admission testing nurses know so they can obtain the results prior to your procedure. If we cannot obtain the results, the testing will need to be repeated at Alaska Regional Hospital.
Anesthesia evaluation/questionnaire
An important component of the preparation process is identifying issues that may interfere with anesthesia or the procedure you're scheduled to receive. The PAT nurse needs to know the names of medications you're taking, including dose and frequency of use, a list of past surgeries, information about allergies and your medical history.
The day of arrival
On the day of your procedure or hospitalization, you must check in with our Admitting Department on the 2nd floor of the hospital. You will then be escorted to a pre-operative room to begin your procedure.
Patients arriving directly from their physician's office to be admitted to the hospital must also visit the Admitting Department. We will ask for your driver's license or identification card, your insurance card and confirmation of your address and employment information. If you've been to Alaska Regional in the past, we'll ask these questions again to verify that the information we have for you is correct.
If you are not able to visit our Admitting Department prior to admission, a Patient Advocate will visit you in your room prior to your discharge to review your account.
