Your hub for Alaska Regional Hospital
This information is devoted to our healthcare professionals, including physicians, mid-level providers, nurses and other medical professionals, at Alaska Regional Hospital.
Physician information
Alaska Regional Hospital is part of the Mountain Star division of HCA Healthcare, the nation's leading provider of healthcare services. With 163 hospitals and 104 outpatient centers locally managed in 20 states and England, the Nashville-based company has been operated by physicians for physicians since its founding in 1968.
Our hospital includes over 500 practitioners who offer a broad spectrum of health services to the community. These dedicated medical professionals work tirelessly to positively affect lives, and those efforts have resulted in several awards and recognitions from the medical community. We are also the only non-military hospital in the state with its own landing strip, allowing transport from all over the state for all that need critical care.
Working and living here, Alaskans enjoy all the amenities of an urban lifestyle that is still only minutes from the great outdoors. These amenities include performing arts, museums, cultural activities, shopping and fine dining. You can also enjoy golfing under the midnight sun, hiking, biking, fishing, skiing and other popular outdoor activities.
Careers
Learn more about physician careers and the various opportunities we have available at our hospital. If you have questions about the application process, or need a request for consideration, please contact our Medical Staff Office at (907) 264-1261.
Please note the following:
- Alaska licensing can take longer than other states. If you do not have an Alaska medical license or a U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license with an Alaska address, your file cannot move forward.
- Credentialing requests can takes approximately 60 days to complete. You should not submit a request more than 100 days from your start date.
- Gaps of thirty days or greater from completion of medical school to present must be accounted for, or your application will be considered incomplete.
- Provisional staff status is a minimum of twelve months, not to exceed 24 months. Provisional staff members are required to have emergency room (ER) call responsibilities, but you cannot be placed on the ER call schedule until you have gone through the credentialing process.
Credentialing and privileging
We believe that it's important to partner with physicians and other medical professionals who have the necessary qualifications and credentials to provide quality, safe and compassionate medical care to our community.
Our rigorous credentialing process follows federal and state regulatory requirements. We also go through accreditation standards to verify education, training, licensure and current competence to ensure that privileges are only granted to qualified providers.
The credentialing process operates as follows:
- Credentialing Committee meetings happen every month
- Medical Executive Committee meetings follow the Credentialing Committee monthly meetings
- Hospital board of trustees also meet bimonthly and has final approval of your requested privileges
